Quick Tip for Staying Healthy: Ginger Infusion

Ginger is an effective home remedy that can help fight off colds, sore throats, and the flu. It is also great for nausea and indigestion. That’s why most of us here at Qiworks always keep some handy in our kitchens.

Here is a recipe for a simple ginger infusion:

Peel a two-inch piece of ginger root and then cut it into thin slices. Bring four cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the infusion into a mug and enjoy.  If you are fighting off a cold or other type of infection, it is not advisable to add any sweetener.

Here is an even more simple way to make one:

Thinly slice a one-inch piece of ginger root and place in a mug.  Pour boiling water into the mug and allow to steep, covered, for about 10 minutes. Then enjoy.

 Other tips and information about ginger:

  • When choosing fresh ginger at the store, look for pieces that are firm, plump, heavy and smooth.

  • A great way to store unpeeled ginger is to keep it in pot or container of horticultural sand.  Cover with well-pieced foil to provide ventilation. Keep in a cool, dry place.

  • A quick way to peel ginger is to scrape it with the side of a teaspoon.
