Qigong Returns to Qiworks for 2014!

Qigong image for blog postOne of the most important things we’ve learned in our practice at Qiworks is how vital effective self-care is to the maintenance of health. The traditions of Chinese medicine offer many wonderful methods for taking care of yourself, and that’s why we’re very excited to announce that Brent will again be offering Qigong classes in the clinic every Wednesday evening beginning January 8.

Qigong (pronounced “Chee-gong”) is a traditional Chinese form of meditative exercise based in the same ancient practices that gave rise to Chinese medicine and the martial arts. Qigong is a general term that translates roughly into English as “the discipline of working with the vital force”. There are thousands of styles of Qigong. Some are very elaborate and take a long time to learn, but the forms we’ll be teaching in this class are very simple and are suitable for beginners and people of all ages and physical conditions. With daily practice, Qigong offers tremendous health benefits, no matter what challenges you may be facing, but in order to experience them, regular practice is required. The greater the diligence in practice, the greater the benefit. The forms we’ll be teaching are easy to learn and can add a powerful dimension to your current exercise or meditation regimen. For those of you without an exercise program, or who are experiencing major physical limitations, simple Qigong forms offer a very approachable way to gain significant health benefits without taxing your system beyond its limits. We will be teaching forms that cleanse and support particular organ and tissue systems, as well as forms that help our bodies cope more harmoniously with the demands of the external environment. Our purpose is to offer a variety of simple techniques that students can easily adapt to their particular needs.

As time goes on, we will be offering weekend and evening workshops in some of the more complex forms of Qigong. Brent is a certified Level II Soaring Crane Qigong instructor, and is also certified to teach Chinese Essence and Turtle Longevity Qigong, among others. These are all forms designed for those who are very serious about regaining and maintaining their health, and offer enormous potential to those willing to make the effort.

The Wednesday classes will be held from 7pm – 8pm and will be taught by Brent. Fees for each class are on a sliding scale from $5-10 per person, and just like our acupuncture services, you decide what amount along the scale you can pay. We have tea and water at the clinic, and you should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes that allow freedom of movement. We have lots of blankets, fans and heaters for temperature regulation, not to mention our usual recliners for necessary rests.

We now have a space at Qiworks that is dedicated for qigong and yoga classes, so please feel free to show up a few minutes early and we’ll get you oriented.                                                             We look forrward to seeing you!
