Did you know that acupuncture can help with controlling high blood pressure?
Hypertension (also called high blood pressure) often does not have any symptoms, so many people don’t even know they have it. One in three adults in the United States has high blood pressure. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to coronary heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.
The good news is that for many people, acupuncture can help to control high blood pressure, along with changes to diet, an exercise program, and sometimes medication. At least one study (cited below) has shown that acupuncture “facilitated a significant reduction in blood pressure” on a group of patients who were currently using antihypertensive medication, and concluded that “data strongly suggest that acupuncture should in the hypertension guidelines and widely used for blood pressure regulation.” If you or someone you know has hypertension, or prehypertension (slightly elevated blood pressure), acupuncture is worth a try!
